DuoVault Terms of Use

Last updated: October 7, 2026

These Terms define the conditions and procedures for using the DuoVault app and related services (the "Service") provided by XTI Co.,Ltd. (주식회사 엑스티아이, the "Company"), as well as the rights, duties, and responsibilities of the Company and users.

1. Purpose

These Terms define the conditions and procedures for using the Service and the rights, duties, and responsibilities of the Company and users.

2. Effect and changes to the Terms

  1. These Terms apply to all users who wish to use the Service.
  2. The Company may change these Terms within the scope permitted by applicable law. Changes will be announced in the Service or through this document from seven days before the effective date, with the effective date and reason. Changes that are unfavorable to users or significant will be announced 30 days in advance and also notified separately, such as through an in-app notice.
  3. If you do not agree to the changed Terms, you may stop using the Service and delete your account.

3. Service use and accounts

  1. The couple vault feature is available after signing in with an Apple or Google account.
  2. Users must use the Service with their own account and must not misappropriate or misuse another person's account.
  3. Users are responsible for safeguarding their app passphrase. If the passphrase is lost, data cannot be recovered, and the Company bears no responsibility for this.

4. User obligations and prohibited acts

Users must not:

  1. Improperly obtain or use another person's account, personal information, or invite code
  2. Interfere with normal operation of the Service, or attempt to bypass or disable its security measures
  3. Upload unlawful or harmful data to servers, or infringe the rights of others
  4. Commit other acts that violate applicable law, public order and morals, or these Terms

5. Responsibility for content

  1. Users are solely responsible for the content of the photos, videos, and other material they upload and for any resulting legal liability.
  2. The Company stores and transmits data in encrypted form for the purpose of operating the Service, but holds no encryption keys and therefore cannot read the content.

6. Data retention and deletion

  1. Personal vault data is stored only on the user's device.
  2. Couple vault data is stored on servers in end-to-end encrypted form and is deleted under Section 6-2 once breakup mode starts.
  3. When a user resets the app or deletes their account, their data is destroyed without delay, except where retention is required by applicable law.
  4. Photos and videos added to the couple vault are also viewed by the connected partner. Copies your partner saved separately on their own device (in Photos, their personal vault, etc.) cannot be deleted by the Company, and deleting your own account or data does not remove them.

6-2. Breakup Mode

Please read this section before connecting a couple vault. Breakup Mode works as follows.

  1. Starting: Either connected user can start Breakup Mode alone; the partner's consent is not required. The Company does not send the partner a separate notification; the partner sees the Breakup Mode status when they open the app.
  2. What happens immediately: Neither person can open or download the couple vault's photos and videos, and the connection ends. Nothing is deleted at this point.
  3. Deletion after 7 days: Seven days after Breakup Mode starts (except in case 6 below), all photos and videos in the couple vault (the ciphertext and thumbnails on the server) are permanently deleted. This includes items uploaded by the partner, not only those uploaded by the person who started Breakup Mode, and they cannot be recovered. Deletion runs in a cleanup job once a day.
  4. Canceling and postponing: If the user who created the couple vault (the owner) cancels within the 7 days, the couple vault and the connection are restored. The owner can postpone deletion by 30 days, and nothing is deleted until then. Users who are not the owner cannot cancel or postpone and need to ask the owner.
  5. Not affected: Each person's personal vault (data stored only on their device) is not affected by Breakup Mode.
  6. When the non-owner starts it (from November 11, 2026): If the user who did not create the couple vault starts Breakup Mode, that user leaves the couple vault and the connection ends. The couple vault and all its photos and videos, including those the leaving user uploaded, stay with the owner and are not deleted. The user who left can no longer see them. Until November 10, 2026, items 2–4 above apply as they are.

7. Disclaimers

  1. The Company is not liable for service interruptions or data loss caused by events beyond its reasonable control, such as natural disasters, network failures, or outages of third-party services (App Store, Firebase, etc.).
  2. Given the nature of end-to-end encryption, the Company is not liable for the inability to recover data due to a lost passphrase or lost device.

8. Service changes and discontinuation

The Company may change or discontinue all or part of the Service where operationally or technically necessary, with advance notice. In urgent cases, notice may be given afterwards.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. In the event of a dispute, the court with jurisdiction over the Company's location shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

Revision history

  • Announced October 12, 2026 · effective November 11, 2026 — Added item 6 to Section 6-2: when the non-owner starts Breakup Mode, the couple vault and its photos stay with the owner and are not deleted. Because photos uploaded by the leaving user also stay with the owner, this is announced 30 days in advance under Section 2.
  • Revised October 7, 2026 · effective immediately — Described how Breakup Mode actually works in Section 6-2 and set a 30-day notice period for significant changes.
